FOTD: Electric Blue

Today I have a Face of the Day that I am really excited about. On the weekends when I do not have work, I really like to go all out with a dramatic look. I wanted to also start using my Maybelline Color Tattoo in Electric Blue. The color was my inspiration for this look. I really think that blue can bring out brown eyes.

Influenster's College Voxbox 2012

I received my College Voxbox from 2012 from Influenster, which is a website where you can read/write reviews on products (beauty products!) and submit reviews of products that they will send you. I was soooo thrilled to receive this Voxbox and wanted to test out the products for review.

The picture on the left shows what the voxbox looks like when it is sent. Let's get into a review of the products!


 ImPress Press-On Manicure - Rating 7/10: I want to start off by saying that I was super excited to try these. The pattern was absolutely awesome and the kit actually had sizes that fit my man-like large fingernails (particularly my thumb nails). The application was very easy. You simply wipe off your nails with the alcohol pad and then peel off the plastic on the back of the nail and then press on. Super easy! Perhaps the reason for such a low rating from me is that the nails simply did NOT stay on for me. Part of this may have something to do with the fact that I was sick and running a fever, which left my hands very wet. They looked nice, but I wish the hold was better.

Pentel EnerGel-X Campaign - Rating 9/10: I absolutely love this pen. Being a graduate student, I write a lot. It's nice to have pens that write smoothly and easily. This pen has very easily become my favorite and I have been using it constantly since I got it. I would definitely repurchase this pen in the black color as well.

Necco Tropical Wafers - Rating 6/10: These wafer candies were sort of like a hit or a miss for me. The green one tasted incredibly delicious, but some of the other flavors were way too tropical-y for me. The texture was very dry and chalky. I probably would not buy them on my own, but I ate the whole pack that was sent to me.

NYC Show Time Glitter Eye-liner Pencil - 10/10: I was completely blown away by the quality of this eyeliner pencil. The color is very pretty and has just the right amount of glitter. I used this eyeliner on my top lashes and it smudged out really well. It also stays on my water line pretty well.

Energy Sheets - 3/10 : I actually misplaced these, so I do not have a photo. They are energy sheets that are meant to give you a burst of caffeine to get through the school day. I found that these had a pretty terrible taste. They kind of taste like really bad mint. You put the little sheet in your mouth and it melts away. I also did not find that these gave me any extra energy. 

Updated Pin up look in high quality

Hi everyone! I wanted to do an updated Pin-up look using my higher quality camera. I think a pin-up look can just help you feel pretty for the whole day. Red lipstick is such a fun and bold thing to wear on your lips. Here's the look I came up with for today using a new technique for the eyes.I also decided to put my hair in a fauxhawk for the day using some sculpting clay. I hope you all like this look. FOTD: Pop of Teal with Sigma and Urban Decay

 I've got another Face of the Day using the Sigma Paris Palette. I also used one shade from the Urban Decay original Naked Palette. I was able to get my hubby to take these pics, so they are all in high quality. If you haven't purchased the Sigma Paris Palette yet, I would highly recommend it. Review: NYC Long Wearing Polish

Anyone who knows me knows that I rarely paint my nails. By rarely, I mean pretty much never. I thought that I could make an exception and paint my nails a pretty color that would be appropriate for spring. I went down to Target in search of a pretty color and stumbled across New York Color Long Wearing Nail Enamel in the color 124 Cashmere Creme.

I thought this color was absolutely stunning and at 94 cents, I thought it would be worth checking out. Now, just to be clear, I am pretty terrible at painting nails. It took both my husband and I to get the nails to look as good as they do now. This is important to know for my review.

Color: I thought the color was pretty true to the bottle. It looked pretty similar on my fingers as it looks inside the bottle. The color was pretty sheer though and required SEVERAL layers to build up a solid color.

Application: As I said, VERY sheer color. I think I put about 3-4 layers just to get the color this built up. The polish really applied in a streaky fashion. It was very difficult to work with this polish.

Other thoughts:  Not even 24 hours after application, one of the nails has already chipped and will need to be repainted. I did apply a top coat to help prevent this from happening, but it seems to have made 0 difference.

Would I repurchase: Probably not. While I enjoyed the color and the price, the application was terrible. I had to repaint the nails several times because the color was just not drying correctly. I'm all about products that I can use easily and quickly because I am a very impatient person.

If you are good at applying nail polish and don't mind waiting, this polish would probably be a cheap option that you might be interested in.

Makeup Challenge - Dupe Your Favorite Movie

Hi everyone! Today's makeup challenge was one that I really enjoyed. The theme was to create a look of a character from your favorite movie. Everyone knows that Fight Club is my absolute favorite movie. I thought that it would be awesome to try to create a Marla Singer inspired look. For the look, I wanted to make my eyes look tired and almost deathly. I used a sort of sepia colored eye shadow all around the eye (including on the bottom lower lash line) to make the eyes look like the color was sort of drained out of them. I then used a black matte eyeshadow to create the typical Marla look. I made the eyelashes messy and clumpy to keep it messy and more in character. I dusted my lips with a red lipstick to give them some color. Finally, I colored in my eyebrows really dark to  match how she has them in the movie. I hope that you guys enjoyed this look even though it was something way out of the ordinary. Let me know what you thought and how I did.
