Review: Wet n Wild LE Going in the Wild Palette 2013

 Today I wanted to review for you the limited edition Wet n Wild Going in the Wild palette. This palette has been getting a lot of buzz online in the makeup community. Since I have had this palette for awhile, I thought it would be appropriate to do a full review with swatches. I just want to start out by saying that acquiring this palette was incredibly difficult and I was only able to find this palette with the top pan broken. 

Here's what this palette looks like up close. The shades have a fair amount of shimmer in them. The palette comes with a little application and no mirror.

The above swatches were taken in natural lighting without any flash without any type of primer or eyeshadow base.

Review:

Pigmentation 6/10

The Going in the Wild palette has less pigmentation than normal Wet n Wild shadows in my opinion. Some of the shadows in the palette (the mint green) are definitely more pigmented than others. Some of the lighter shades have fairly weak pigmentation. I was shocked at the quality of these shadows compared to normal Wet n Wild. 

Blendability 7/10

These shadows weren't the worst at blending, but they definitely did not live up to normal Wet n Wild shadows to me. I found that some of the shadows would go on streaky, making it hard to blend. Some of the shadows would virtually disappear when I would blend.

Texture 8/10

I found these shadows to feel fairly smooth when going on, just as normal Wet n Wild shadows feel very buttery. The shadows in Going in the Wild feel somewhat softer than most shadows and as a result they tended to crumble for me.

Fallout 4/10

I am going to start out by showing the photo to the right. This was my first time using this palette. As you can tell, the mint color went on very patchy and created a very, very bad fallout mess onto my face. The mint color definitely had more fallout than the other shades. The fallout occured AFTER tapping off my brush.

Packaging 6/10

The packaging is pretty standard Wet n Wild but it has cuter white designs on it. The packaging is lacking a mirror, which is a down side in my opinion.

Overall 6.2/10

I was very disappointed by this palette, especially since I had hunted it down for so many weeks. The palette has pretty colors, but you must be super careful using them due to the enormous amount of fallout. Would I repurchase? No, I would not. 

FOTD: Naturally Spring

 Happy Saturday everyone! I am currently on a one week challenge to use my Urban Decay Naked palette every single day. Today was my first day and I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this look. This is by far the most natural look that I have ever put on this blog. FOTD: Smokey Eye

TGIF everyone! I was super busy today with going to the gym and going grocery shopping that I hadn't had time to do my makeup! I thought that it would be fun and relaxing for me to try to do a smokey eye. This is really the first time that I have done a smokey eye that didn't look like I got punched in the eye. I am pretty satisfied with the results, so here it is!

FOTD: Blues from Lorac GLOgetter

Review: Milani Color Statement Flamingo Pose and Sangria

Hello! Today I have a review on the new Milani Color Statement lipsticks. These can be purchased at CVS, some Walgreens, and Rite Aid. They retail for about $5.49 or so. They are very affordable and come in a variety of shades. I picked up two shades that seemed unique - Sangria and Flamingo Pose. Let's jump into the review!

 The packaging is very nice on these. The lipsticks are a shiny gold with the Milani logo printed on them. The bottom squares show what color the lipstick is. I find this really helpful, as I put them upside down in my lipstick holder. They are easy to find that way!

Here's what the lipsticks look like when you open them up. 

 Here are the swatches of the two lipsticks in natural lighting without flash. Both colors have a slight shimmer to them. Sangria is more matte than Flamingo Pose is. Neither color is actually matte.

Flamingo Pose is a bright pink. It is true to color as what you see in the swatch. It goes on very easily, but it can get messy due to how pigmented it is. I would definitely recommend a lip liner for both of these lipsticks.

 Sangria has been described as a dupe of Mac's Rebel, which is a very popular color. This was actually the reason why I picked up Sangria. I do not own Rebel, so I cannot say for sure if it is a dupe. You be the judge of that. Sangria is a berry color that leans more to the purple side. The color is slightly more drying than Flamingo Pose, but neither shade is uncomfortable to wear.

Application: 9/10

These can be messy! They are very pigmented and it can be hard for me to stay in the lines. I would recommend a lip liner for that reason. The lipsticks glide on with ease and do not give me any problems. The colors can be built up or can be worn more sheer. 

Pigmentation 10/10

The Milani Color Statement lipsticks are crazy pigmented. They are some of the most pigmented lipsticks I have come across. The colors are vibrant and really make a statement, just as the name suggests. I have been complimented multiple times on how bright these lipsticks are. Both shades are very opaque. 

Lasting Power 10/10

The Milani Color Statement Lipsticks have incredible lasting power. I can wear these lipsticks for the majority of my 5-6 hour work days. I have eaten entire meals in these shades and there has still been color on my lips. I find that both Sangria and Flamingo Pose stain the lips. If you do not like lipsticks that stain, these are not for you. They do not dry out my lips during the wear time either. They remain comfortable. I hardly notice that I am wearing them. 

Color Selection 10/10

There are 27 shades of Milani Color Statement lipsticks that range from pinks, reds/oranges, berries, and nudes. I believe there is a shade for everyone in this line. 

Scent:

These lipsticks have a scent that reminds me of Jollyranchers. If you do not like scent, these probably aren't for you. I find that I do not notice the scent after the lipstick has been on. It is just noticeable in the tube and during the application process. 

Overall: 9.5/10

I would definitely repurchase these. I do plan on getting more shades as well. They are pigmented, comfortable to wear, and long lasting. Let me know down below if you have tried any of the Milani Color Statement lipsticks. 

FOTD: Happy Easter

Happy Easter lovelies! As an adult, I have found that Easter is a holiday that I don't really celebrate anymore. I am sure that will change if I ever have children though. For now, I will do my makeup and eat some Marshmellow Peeps. It's raining and nasty here in the Midwest, so I thought that I could do some pastel like makeup to liven it up. I came up with this look this morning and am pretty happy with how it came out.

FOTD: St. Patrick's Day

Today's makeup look is inspired by today's holiday - St. Patrick's Day. I originally wanted to do a BRIGHT green look like I did last year, but the look came out darker. I was actually surprisingly happy with the darkness of this look. I also received a compliment while I was out eating breakfast with my boyfriend. I think that the darker greens bring out my brown eyes more. 

 Here is what the eye makeup looks like up close on the eye. I started with a lighter green in the inner corner and worked out to a darker green mixed with black to define the outer-v area.

Review: Garnier Olia Hairdye

 Hi everyone! Today I have a review of the Garnier Olia home hair dye. I used this dye to touch up my blonde hair, so I thought it would be a cool idea to do a review for it. 

Product:
Garnier Olia in shade 9 1/2.5 Lightest Cool Blonde
Comes with a conditioner to lock in the color
Comes with gloves
Retails for about $9 depending on where you are

Bonus: My photo featuring Ginger!

 Above this text is what my hair looked like before. The blonde is fairly warm colored,  but my roots had begun to grow out. I was not looking to change the color, I simply wanted to touch up my roots for a fresh look before my Spring Break trip to see my SO. 
To the left here I have what I looked like through the process. It is MY OWN preference to put on a developing cap. I find that dye develops much better underneath a cap. 

Application: 7/10
The Olia dye comes with a tube for the coloring and a tube to develop the color. You put both tubes into the plastic applicator. I enjoyed the shape of the applicator. It was much different than previous home dyes that I have used. The dye looked creamy and thick in the tube. I found that the dye was somewhat difficult to apply due to the thick consistency. It took me longer to work the dye into my hair. 

Smell: 9/10
This dye did not have a heavy smell at all. It was much more mild than other home dyes that I have used. I wouldn't say that it smelled good, but it was not unpleasant.  

Development: 10/10
I did not have any issues with the development of this product. The dye did not burn while it was in my hair. It was fairly comfortable (as comfortable as dye can be while it is in your hair). The color developed fairly quickly (about 40-45 minutes). 

Rinsing: 9/10
Due to the thickness of this product, I found it somewhat more difficult to rinse out compared to other dyes I have used. You are supposed to mix in the provided conditioner before rinsing the product. I will admit that there was some user error in this step. I realized that I had begun to rinse out the color before I had put in the conditioner. This may have affected the final color outcome (not sure). 

Color: 7/10
This is probably where I am disappointed in this product. I am not a huge fan of this particular shade. The color is a lot cooler toned than I imagined it being. Once again, I probably should have chosen a warmer blonde, but I honestly didn't think it would change my hair this drastically. My roots came out an unattractive color of brassy/orange. Even after using Purple Shampoo to help tone the color, this was still an issue. 

How it affected my hair:
My hair stayed relatively soft. The dye did not feel as drying as other home dyes that I have tried. My hair appears fairly shiny, even a few weeks later. 

I have received numerous compliments on this color. People have reported that it gives my hair "depth," so I cannot complain too much. 

Overall Rating: 8/10
Would I repurchase:  Yes, but I would choose a warmer color. 

What's in my travel makeup bags?

Hello! Today I wanted to share what makeup I took on my recent Spring Break vacation out of state. I was gone for about ten days. I knew I would need variety for natural, more dramatic, or colorful looks. I brought some of my favorite or essential items. 

Face:
I only brought one foundation with me. I brought my holy grail MUFE Matte Velvet + Foundation. This foundation is very long wearing and gives a very matte, medium to full coverage look. I also brought my favorite powder, Rimmel Stay Matte. I brought a nice bronzer and my favorite blushes - ELF Candid Coral and Tarte Amazonian Clay in Exposed. 

Eyes: 
I did not want to bring too many palettes, but I was afraid that I would get bored with my makeup. I brought my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette to do natural looks. I also brought two Sleek Palettes, Storm and Oh So Special. This gave me a variety of darker,  more dramatic colors to work with. I supplemented these palettes with several of my Maybelline Color Tattoos. I also brought a brown and a black mascara. I brought a few colored eyeliners, as well.

Lips:
I wanted to have lip stains, moisturizing lip colors, as well as some normal lipsticks. I brought MAC Japanese Maple and L'oreal Fairest Nude to have some nude lip colors. I brought several of my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. I also brought my new Milani Color Statement lipsticks in Flamingo Pose and Sangira. I threw in a Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake to have a soft pink color for neutral looks. I then grabbed my L'oreal Wet Caresse Stains to have some bolder colors.


I was able to pack all of my makeup into these two bags. The bag on the right is from a Target beauty bag and the other bag is from Ulta's gift set about a year ago. I use the leopard print bag to carry in my purse with powder, my lipstick, a good mirror, and a blush for touch ups. The other bag fit my Sleek Palettes and everything else.

In hindsight, I wish that I had brought one of my BH cosmetics palettes because I felt limited in doing colorful looks. In the future, I would definitely bring a palette with more color variety.

FOTD: Colors!

Hello everyone! I have a FOTD for today. I was inspired by this PInterest look and wanted to try my hand at recreating it. It looks like a basic look, but it took me about an hour to really blend out the purple, so that it wasn't too crazy and dramatic for day wear. I had a lot of fun using this much color for the first time in a long time. With Spring just around the corner, I am ready to create some fun and colorful looks for you.
